Last week in Vol. 2, we discussed that you were qualified to homeschool your children without a teaching degree. [widgets]Continuing in our Guest Post Homeschooling series,by Dawn at Slop Swap, this week’s question is:
How do you do it? I don’t have the patience.
Answer: Some days I don’t either.
Not every day is going to go smoothly. We have our off days and when we do, we have the flexibility to take a break, work outside or even finish up the next day if we want to. I can tailor things to the needs of my children when things come up.
I think a lot of people look at the afterschool homework time as what they could expect from homeschooling. If they have a hard time getting their child to do his/her homework afterschool and it’s a really frustrating time, then they think that must be what it’s like to homeschool. It’s not.
Granted I can only speak for my family, but you figure out what works for each individual child and you tailor it to him/her. Each one of my children is different. They each learn at a different level, like to have a different level of help, etc. and that is one of the reasons I love homeschooling. I can meet each one of them at his/her specific need. I also realize that it might change from week to week or even day to day. Although, sometimes I do forget this and that’s why I say that sometimes I don’t have the patience either.
It has helped me to make sure that I get myself organized. I think most of my issues with my patience level come from me not being ready to start my day or not being organized. I am a very structured, organized person so if I have their school work organized before we begin, then the day goes much better.
